St. George's Creek and Daylighting - Past Present and Future

Guide:

Bryn Davidson is a designer of green projects in BC, Alaska, and Ontario. A sustainability consultant and author, he specializes in planning for climate change and oil depletion. He is also the Executive Director of the Dynamic Cities Project. Recently, he has been designing laway housing with Lanefab.

Special Instructions:

Mostly sidewalks; wear walking shoes. Walk is child-friendly. Rain or shine. Suggested donations of $5 - $10 welcome.

Description:

Although we can no longer see the salmon stream that used to run where St. George Street now is, we can still hear it, contained in city sewers. Join Bryn Davidson for a walk from Robson Park along St. George Street down to the Great Northern Way, discussing the topography and hydro-dynamics of the St. George Creek watershed as well as ways it might be reinvented as a blue way or a green space as we become more aware of the ecology of our neighbourhood. Drop by the St. George Creek Street Party at 5th Avenue E. and St. George Street afterward - bring your own lunch and beverages.

NOTE: We are a Non-Profit Society who is happy to give our volunteer time for these very important historical walks. In the two previous years of walks, MANY OF THOSE WHO DID REGISTER NEVER CAME to the planned walk. Some had registered groups of 3 or 5 people each. As a result, others who registered later were disappointed because our quota had been reached. Also the historians who had worked hard to prepare their material only spoke to a small number of people.

We ask that you ONLY REGISTER IF THERE IS A VERY GOOD CHANCE YOU WILL BE JOINING US on that day. Please be respectful of the work the organizers and historians are putting into these events and follow these guidelines. We look forward to seeing you at our walks!
